Tom has conducted business in the United States, Europe, Asia and especially in Eurasia. He lived and worked in Moscow, Russia for over a decade as the managing director of a Washington, DC-based government relations and strategic communications advisory services firm, serving companies, SMEs, startups and non-profit organizations. In the firm’s Washington, DC office he represented clients with US administration officials and members of the US Congress on international trade, market access and non-tariff issues, like intellectual property rights. He was instrumental in founding and leading an international public-private partnership dedicated to enacting international standard intellectual property laws and protections in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. Tom was an appointee to the US International Trade and Advisory Committee on intellectual property, under the Office of the Trade Representative and the International Trade Administration, the US Department of Commerce. In 2006, he founded T. Thomson & Associates, LLC, and advises large and small companies, and startups in the US and international marketplaces. He earned an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University, an MSW from the University of Michigan and a BA from Oakland University. Tom has published articles and op-eds in mainstream news publications, business and professional journals. He and his family reside in the Washington, DC area.
